A New Direction

Hello hello everyone!

So most of you who land on this site instead of my new one here, you probably know me for my food blogging. You don't know how much that means to me!

But since I have moved my food blog to a new fancy wordpress site I've been trying to figure out what to do with this old site. I'm still getting some views so I thought, why not just turn this blog into something different? Something other than food blogging.

And why not just spew my words about anything and everything else? What I'm loving, what I'm hating, my opinions on the world and news. Hey, it's worth a shot?

Oh and have something you want me to write about? Just let me know!

Anyway, be prepared for some new and awesome posts in the near future! Thanks guys!

For now I am still trying to transfer all of my recipes and reviews onto the new site, but i'll be posting new recipes very soon!

Menuism's Best Late Night Eats

Hey guys, so I participated in a survey from Menuism asking for Austin's best late night eats. Well, the post is now officially out, so you should definitely go check that out!
Another amazing blogger who participated in the survey is Brittany Highland from Austinot, so of course you can expect great things!

Whole Foods "Bites and Bloggers" and Parkside Cocktail Party by Stonyfield and Organic Valley BlogHer Events

Soooo, the past couple of days have Austin has been filled with bloggers from all over for the BlogHer conference. Bloggers including the famous Ree Drummond from The Pioneer Woman, who of course through her blog has made cookbooks and has her own show on Food Network.

Kinda cool right?

While I didn't go to all of the events, I only attended 3, they were amazing I have to admit.

The first one was the opening welcome party held at Whole Foods downtown on the roof. Tons of Austin's top female chefs including the lovely Jodie Elliot from Foreign and Domestic and Sarah McIntosh from Epicerie all created wonderful and unique dishes to serve at this event.

Let me just tell you, there was so much good food I didn't know where it was going to end. I tried to eat a sample of everything but I failed. That wasn't even the first event of the night!

I feel so bad though I took so many pictures but can't remember who made what, but just indulge in  these pictures with me. The woman behind every dish did a fantastic job and they all deserve equal applause.

Almond Cookies

Ya know, looking back at some of my older posts on here I can really tell i've gotten better at some of this photography stuff.

Some of my pictures come out actually decent, if I do say so myself.

Make it at Home! Homemade Mayonnaise

Sometimes it's easy to forget how to make some of the staples that are in your house. Why make it at home when you can easily just pick up a bottle at the store?

Yes, it's easier to just buy food premade at the store, but I promise you if you make some of it at home, it's a million times better.

Baked Red Snapper with Cilantro Lime Avocado Salsa

I just want to say congradulations to everyone who graduated this weekend!

It's a little weird for me to go on facebook and see all these people graduating that I know but don't really know. Acquaintances if you will.

I would be excited and posting about how graduating is awesome alongside them this year as well.

Coconut Rum Cheesecake

Party time!

I've mentioned before how me and my mom always have a girls weekend when my brothers and dad go hunting or fishing, and this weekend is no exception.

Caramelized Onion and Blue Cheese Tart

I swear i'm turning into a hypochondriac.

The last time I went to the dentist they told me my gums were receding a little on some of my teeth, and lately I swear it's gotten worse. Gross I know.

They didn't have any explanation why they were receding, they just are. Everything else was fine though.

Better Than Movie Theater Popcorn

Do you ever get the craving for movie theater popcorn?

I mean, microwave popped popcorn is good but it just doesn't cut it.

You gotta pop it in some hot oil and slather a ton of butter and seasonings on popcorn to make it really good! And believe me this stuff is good. I could sit and eat a giant bowl full of this, and have. Don't judge.

Potato Mushroom and Onion Hash

So this past week my mom has been out of town visiting with my grandparents.

My grandpa has been in the hospital a lot lately, very ill, and it's been really hard on my grandma, and the whole family.

White Cheddar Mac and Cheese

Is there anything better than mac and cheese?

Seriously, in my opinion, it is the ultimate comfort food.

Failed Attempts at Orange Marmalade

I don't know what it is but I can't seem to make jams, jellies, or marmalades right.

I think i'm just too impatient to let it cook long enough so it won't set up right.

Chocolate Bread Pudding and a Happy Mothers Day!

I love my mom.

Seriously, she is my best friend. I know a lot of people who aren't very close to their family and it always makes me sad. I've been so blessed to have an amazing supportive family who I can honestly say are my best friends as well.

What I'm Lovin!

What i'm lovin'!

A lot of people seem to do this, just make a list of some of their favorite things at the time are and share it with their followers. So I thought, why not?

Let me know if ya'll like it and if you would want me to continue with these or not.

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!

Peanut Tofu Noodle Stir Fry

Decisions decisions...

I'm a really bad decision maker. I always over think everything and make it even more complicated than it needs to be. I mean, I've gotten better over the years, but when it comes to big decisions in my life it takes me a while to figure out what to do.

I suppose this is both a good and a bad thing.

"Taming Tummy Troubles" event by Scott and White Health Centers

Hello everyone!

The gluten free diet craze has skyrocketed recently. It has replaced the whole Atkins Diet and low carb. But it isn't just for people trying to lose weight. Many people have a serious intolerance to gluten, so they literally cannot eat it.

I have a friend like this, and I always feel so bad! I make cakes and cookies and he can't eat any of it.

But this is why we're trying to spread the word about it. I urge all of you to go to this event THIS SATURDAY, hosted by Scott and White! I mean, gluten free pancakes you guys. Yum!

Shrimp and Cheddar Grits

I've lived in the south my whole life, but shrimp and grits was never one of those meals we just had all the time.

In fact, the first time I had shrimp and grits was when I made it myself a couple of years ago. Maybe it was because my mom doesn't like seafood, or maybe it's more of a Louisiana creole southern thing instead of a Texas thing.

"Austin Bakes For West"

As everyone knows there was a recent tragedy in a small town called West here in Texas. Many amazing and brave people were injured, some even killed, and homes were lost. The affects after something like this is more than just skin deep.

To show the people of West Texas many places here in Austin are having a bake sale to help out everyone in West Texas, and to let them know they're not alone.

I strongly urge everyone to go and buy some baked goods this weekend, Saturday May 4th. Want to help out even more too? You can sign up to bake for these sales Here.

For those who want to give back but can't make it to a bake sale, you can donate money through this site Here.

So come on guys, show some Texas love and give back to your neighbors!

In Honor of all the Boston Marathon Victims and Their Families, Boston Cream Pie In a Jar

This post is a little more serious than many of my other posts.

Everyone's heard about the bombs during the Boston marathon which is such a tragedy. I heard about it through a customer coming into the restaurant, then watched in horror the footage and photos from the horrible scene on TV.

Saag Paneer and My Adventure Speaking at UT

So the other day I got an email that really just amazed me.

I sat there for a moment in silence like, "Is this real?"

Keep in mind that every time I get an email for something because of this blog I get really giddy, but this particular invite was really cool in my opinion.

Reese's Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all having a great week, despite the cold and rainy weather we've been having here in Austin.

I have to admit I wasn't expecting that one bit, nor did I care for it. I'm ready for the 108 degree weather! No more cold until fall please.

Cheddar Pork Rib Biscuit Sandwich

Hello hello, and welcome everyone!

So remember the other day when I said I needed a new job? Well i'm not saying I still don't want a new job, I do, but what i'm here to say is that i've decided to start doing side jobs.

Jobs such as helping restaurants and food trucks handle their social media and advertising, to get more business and exposure. I'd handle twitter, facebook and any other social media sites, and help to promote them.

Good idea right?

So, if you own a restaurant or food truck and want more exposure, just let me know!

Texas Honey Pecan Cookies

I'll be honest, I used to hate spring.

It's not quite hot yet, but it's not cold either. Plus the rain just makes it humid all the time and my hair does not like that one bit.

Cherry Almond Cupcakes

I love weddings.

I'll admit i'm one of those girls who just loves dressing up to go to a wedding, even if I don't have a date, and seeing the happy couple say those 2 magical words, "I do" proposing their undeniable love to each other.

Avocado Deviled Eggs and Looking For a New Job/Apprenticeship

How is everyone this lovely rainy Tuesday night?

So ya'll have probably heard or noticed that i'm not too fond of my job. I honestly used to love it, believe me I did, but i'm afraid that I've grown out of it. I want something that will actually help me in my future, something that I can use as a learning experience.

While I've learned a lot at my job now as a server, I want a job actually in the kitchen. I want to learn gain experience in the kitchen and learn how to cook different things.

Which is why i'm here talking to all of you about it.

If anyone out there in Austin, whether you are a restaurant or food truck, needs extra help in the kitchen I would love to do and apprenticeship for you. Paid or non-paid, I really just want the experience of working in a real life kitchen or food truck.

Send me an email,somethingsweetaustin@yahoo.com, and I can give you reference numbers and answer and further questions that you may have.

Carrot Cream Cheese Streusel Muffins

Happy Sunday everyone!

Can ya'll believe that Easter is exactly one week from today?

I honestly can't, it's sneaking up on me. I'm used to it being in April close to my birthday, this whole Easter being in March is throwing me off.

I'm excited though.

Boozy Mini Pecan Pie Cupcakes

You know those moments in school when you take a test and you think to yourself, "I totally aced that test!" Only to get the test back and find out you failed.

Yeah, those times suck.

Lucky for me though that didn't happen this time. This time I got my midterm test back and found out I got a 98!

Sarah Eats Austin goes to Gourdoughs

Mmmm... Donuts...

For anyone who's ever watched the Simpsons you know what i'm talking about. And that is exactly what I was saying while eating at Gourdoughs!

A local food truck based on South 1st St. This food truck is taking the people of Austin away into donut heaven. It has received much publicity, being seen on the Food Network and Cooking Channel, this food truck has definitely made it's mark in the food scene.

Broccoli Salad with Blue Cheese and Pecans

Oh Monday, how I loath you.

It's so hard getting back into the swing of things after a break, especially one as great as this last spring break.

Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake

Oh the last weekend of spring break....

The last couple of days to enjoy blissful freedom before it's back to the books once again and the constant stressful knot in your stomach resumes...

I don't know about ya'll but i'm not ready to go back yet. How about we get just one more week off. Yes?

This is the firs time anyone's ever sent me anything to review and do you know how exciting that is?!

To receive this package was like Christmas morning! Especially with the pretty purple bow, I loved it!

Sarah's Picks: A few of my favorite restaurants

So with the Austin City Guide coming out recently, I was inspired by all the great and interesting posts. Mine was on the best breakfast tacos in Austin, but after having eaten out a lot lately at some truly amazing restaurants, I really wanted to talk about some of my favorite with you all. I mean, these places just took my breath away with their food.

And for all you out of towner's here for SXSW I strongly urge you to check these places out before you leave!

Avocado Pesto Pasta

I'm a wimp.

I admit it. I went down to SXSW for a couple of hours but  you know what? It's cold and rainy! No fun you guys.

Now maybe if I actually had something planned out for today to do I would've stayed, but today I just kinda winged it.

No luck.

Guinness Braised Doves

I love culinary school.

I know, it's only my semester doing it, and i'm only taking 2 of the basic classes I need, but honestly so far it's been great.
